Amista 2023 Cristalina Chardonnay

Amista 2023 Cristalina Chardonnay

Our 2023 Cristalina is such a good representation of a fantastic vintage. This wine got a much longer hangtime in the vineyard this year yet we were still able to maintain great natural acidity and low sugar. It all reflects flavor-wise in the final wine. The aromas are of bright white flowers and juicy white peach with a hint of limestone and white rocks. The palate is balanced and really fruit driven but bright with great tension and a balanced acidity on the finish. Just lovely.

Vineyard Notes
The 2023 vintage was a nice reprieve from the dry vintages of the last 5 years. We had TONS of rainfall during the winter and spring, which was followed by a very temperature growing season. While the weather eventually did get warm in early September, that nice slow and long even ripening was so nice for our grapes.
Production Notes
This is our third vintage of working with our concrete egg fermenting vessel. After picking and whole cluster pressing, the juice was moved into a concrete egg for indigenous fermentation. The shape of the egg allowed for natural mixing to occur within the wine which gave great fermentation kinetics. After fermentation, the tank was topped up and then stored for 6 months. At 6 months, we racked the wine off primary lees to a stainless steel tank just before bottling.
Winemaker Notes
This comes from our Morningsong Estate Vineyard Clone 4 Chardonnay. We picked this earlier than our pick for our other block of chardonnay in order to maintain the natural acidity and encourage the minerality to persist.
